Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA)
Managing one of the largest watersheds in Southern California, the Santa
Ana Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA) oversees watershed management,
water quality and management programs along the Santa Ana River, running
through Orange and Riverside Counties.
Working with SAWPA’s publicly-elected Board of Directors and executive
staff, Curt Pringle and Associates helped the agency receive $250 million
in state funds to invest in their integrated watershed plan, the most
money a Southern California County has ever received through a state water
bond.
Our team coordinated with state legislators, their staff and executive
branch agencies to earmark SAWPA programs in AB 1584 (the Safe Drinking
Water, Clean Water, Watershed Projection and Flood Protection Act). This
measure placed Proposition 13 on the March 2000 ballot.
In addition to our advocacy and government relations work, Curt Pringle
and Associates developed a community relations and stakeholder communications
program to deliver SAWPA’s watershed management message directly
to the community and help build broad public support for their water quality
projects.
